| From
just north of Niigata on the eastern coast of Japan, route 113 stretches
off into the deeply wooded mountains. It will take another 90 minutes
by car to reach Oguni Town, or longer if you stop for a ramen at one
of the many resort hostelries. |
 |
 |
| Route 113 penetrates
through the mountains with numerous tunnels and bridges that span
fast flowing rivers. Over lengths the roadway is covered to protect
from the deep snows this mountain region experiences in winter. |
In these mountains,
the Matagi hunters still roam and practice their ancient methods to
capture bear and other prey. |
